What is red light therapy?
Electromagnetic radiation comes in various wavelengths, ranging from minimal gamma radiation to much more significant radio waves. Only some of this spectrum is light, but our skin absorbs it, and while other parts of the light spectrum, like UV rays are damaging, some wavelengths are beneficial to the skin and can be used in LED light therapy.
Red light has the longest wavelength of the visual spectrum. One form of LED light therapy, red light therapy or RLT is a remedy that utilises red LEDs to make low-level wavelengths that pass through the skin in a non-invasive way. Mitochondria in the skin cells take in the red light to produce energy, which specialists believe supports cellular repair and health [2].

Red light therapy and longevity
Although red light therapy has a vast range of applications for skincare and pain relief, much of the buzz is in its use for antiaging [3]. Its benefits are far more far-reaching than caring for your skin and can ultimately do wonders for your health and longevity.
Red light devices usually generate detectable light you can see and infrared wavelengths out of the visible spectrum. Currently, red light therapy has various clinical and consumer uses. Different names for red light therapy include:
- Biostimulation
- Cold laser therapy
- Low-level laser therapy (LLLT)
- Low-power laser therapy (LPLT)
- Photobiomodulation (PBM)
- Photonic simulation
- Soft laser therapy
The photons from red light therapy devices aid to power your body, which produces electrical potential and charges our cells. This potential is a rich energy resource and an indicator of our body’s vitality.
Why FlexBeam?
FlexBeam is developed for personal use at home or anywhere. It is flexible to achieve targeted multi-angle light delivery via its three modules to improve the irradiation area [4].
With its distinctive and ergonomic design, FlexBeam allows light to infiltrate deep into difficult-to-reach areas of the body like the shoulder joint and knee – which is impossible with flat light panels.

FlexBeam has visible red and near-infra red wavelengths for the safest and most successful therapeutical wavelengths. In addition, it has a convenient wrap-around application design in one apparatus, making it easy to use, even when I’m on another endless Zoom call (can we say this?).
Been using your device for a while and need to recharge? Not a problem, as FlexBeam uses battery or plug-in operations for practical ease of use anytime, anywhere.
Travelling with the device is also a breeze – I have been toting it to my out-of-town speaking engagements with no problem at all.
Forget about pain and discomfort
After six weeks of using FlexBeam, the pain in my back and shoulders is gone, and day-to-day activity has never felt better. I can even work out better now.
Safety first
As with all red light therapy products, they are generally safe. They may use a lower wavelength frequency, which means they’re less potent than what dermatologists or other trained skin professionals may use.
Here are some basic guidelines to follow:
- Do not place over tattoos to prevent any weird reactions, especially when tattoos are brand new or in black pigment.
- Do not use these devices on children below 12 years old.
- Do not exceed recommended exposure time. Speak with your doctor if you have additional questions.
- For people with light sensitivity, decrease exposure time.
- Never stare at the LEDs or use them within 30 cm of the eyes, as strong invisible infrared light is being emitted.
- Please do not use it under alcohol influence.
- You might get an unusual reaction or detox response for heavily medicated patients.
The verdict
FlexBeam is an effective and handy device that relieves my body from soreness and recharges it on the go. If you want to free yourself from muscle aches and pains, it’s definitely worth a try and I am still using mine and feeling the benefits!
