According to a nutritionist, people can improve their overall health by doing one thing, but it is often overlooked.
New York-based Salt and Sage Nutrition founder Monica D’Agostino shared the compelling insight on TikTok. According to her, increasing fiber intake can benefit blood sugar levels, weight loss, cholesterol levels and digestion [1].
Monica, who has attracted more than 629,100 followers on the site by posting diet tips, also shared recipes for a high-fiber diet. The TikTok video, posted on Monday, features Monica speaking directly to the camera: “As a dietitian, I feel like people are always searching for that missing piece of something that is going to improve their overall health.”
People always want me to be like “this is the missing piece of what will fix everything for you.” However, there just isn’t a product out there that does that. There are some ways you can do to increase your overall health, such as increasing your fiber intake.
In addition to lowering blood sugar levels, fiber-rich diets help with weight loss, reduce cholesterol, aid digestion and regulate blood sugar levels. We know that fiber is one of those things we can increase and that most Americans don’t need to consume daily amounts of fiber in order to benefit from it.Â

- Has a soothing effect on the digestive tract.
- Helps optimize nutrient absorption from the foods you consume.
Then, Monica shares recipes that ensure a high fiber intake throughout the day. There is a breakfast smoothie, a peanut chicken salad for lunch and pasta with broccoli and pesto sauce for dinner.
Toward the end of the video, Monica, who has a Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition and a Master’s Degree in Dietetics, says: “We’re going to increase fiber. We are going to look good. We are going to feel good. It’s going to be great.”
Following her upload, her followers responded to her post with praise and applauded her for pointing them in the right direction. She captioned the clip: “Fiber is your friend people #highfiber #groceryhaul #highfiber diet #dietitian #healthymeals #budgetshopping.”
The business is her “passion project,” she revealed later. This is my way of reaching clients, sharing recipes, and connecting with like-minded people with a passion for wellness. “I created this site to do just that,” she concluded.
Although not entirely new, adding fiber to our diets has already shown some promise for health and weight loss benefits [2]. The American Heart Association recommends consuming 25 to 30 grams of dietary fiber daily, but rather from food rather than supplements [3]. In the United States, adults consume around 15 grams of dietary fiber per day, just half the amount recommended.Â
