AlzeCure Pharma published a scientific article in the Scandinavian Journal of Pain reporting preclinical characterization of ACD137, the lead candidate in its TrkA-NAM pain program.
The paper, authored by Pontus Forsell, PhD, with multiple co-authors, describes ACD137 as a selective negative allosteric modulator of TrkA that blocks NGF-mediated signaling. According to the company, preclinical data show that the substance is highly potent and selective, with favorable properties for further drug development, and demonstrate analgesic effects in models of neuropathic pain and osteoarthritis-related pain.
The analgesic effect was comparable in a head-to-head preclinical comparison with the anti-NGF antibody Tanezumab, and anti-inflammatory and knee-protective effects were observed, suggesting potential disease-modifying value in osteoarthritis.
AlzeCure is presenting this result as part of its Painless research platform, which the company says complements its clinical-stage pipeline for central nervous system conditions and pain.
