C2N Diagnostics has entered the South Korean market through a partnership with BeauBrain Healthcare to provide its Precivity portfolio of blood tests designed to help diagnose Alzheimer’s disease, according to the company. The agreement enables healthcare professionals in South Korea to access the PrecivityAD2 test for use in patients aged 50 and older who show signs or symptoms of mild cognitive impairment or dementia.
According to the company, the blood test is intended to assist physicians in detecting amyloid plaques in the brain, a hallmark of Alzheimer’s disease, and to support clinical management and treatment decisions. The company states that blood based diagnostics may provide an alternative to amyloid PET imaging, which has historically been used to confirm the presence of plaques but can involve higher costs, limited access and exposure to radiation.
The company claims research published in medical journals has demonstrated the clinical performance of the PrecivityAD2 test. A study published in JAMA found the test improved diagnostic accuracy compared with standard care without biomarker testing, while additional research reported accuracy of 91 percent, sensitivity of 90 percent and specificity of 92 percent compared with amyloid PET imaging.
According to the company, demand for earlier and more precise diagnosis is increasing as regulators in the United States and South Korea have approved disease modifying therapies that target the underlying causes of dementia. The company states the partnership aims to expand access to blood based Alzheimer’s diagnostics as clinicians adopt new tools to identify the disease earlier in its progression.
