CellProthera is advancing its CD34+ stem cell therapy ProtheraCytes toward a pivotal Phase 3 trial targeting patients after myocardial infarction, aiming to prevent progression to heart failure.

The company has strengthened its governance with appointments of Jérôme Hirtzlin and Anne de la Fortelle and identifies GMP-compliant production, site selection and operator training as immediate milestones before late-stage development.

According to the company, ProtheraCytes is delivered using a proprietary transendocardial catheter to place cells around the scar border zone, and the company claims the approach could be first-in-class by repairing myocardial tissue earlier than current pharmacological and device-based options.

Operationally, CellProthera is prioritizing process automation and parallelised manufacturing to improve consistency and reduce costs. The company highlights regulatory hurdles such as potency assays and manufacturing reproducibility, and it stresses the need for international clinical alignment and coordinated investment to scale regenerative cardiology from experimental programmes into broader clinical practice.
