Cleara, a California-based biotechnology company focused on developing senescence-targeting therapies, has raised $34 million in a Series A funding round to progress its lead programs toward clinical trials. The startup aims to develop novel treatments that address age-related tissue dysfunction by clearing senescent cells, which accumulate with aging and contribute to chronic diseases.
The funding round was led by Foresite Capital with participation from other investors. Cleara’s proprietary approach involves modulating the cellular environment to rejuvenate aged tissues, a strategy that showed promising results in preclinical studies where treated aged mice exhibited restored physical function and improved tissue health.
“As featured in the publication, Cleara’s CEO highlighted that their platform breathes new life into old tissues by selectively removing senescent cells, potentially transforming the treatment of age-related conditions,” the article stated. The company plans to initiate human trials within the next two years, targeting diseases linked to cellular senescence such as osteoarthritis and fibrosis.
Cleara’s approach builds on the emerging field of senolytics and immunomodulation, which aims to delay or reverse aspects of biological aging. The firm intends to leverage this investment to expand its pipeline and accelerate development timelines.
This funding milestone underscores growing investor interest in longevity therapeutics that target fundamental aging mechanisms, signaling a shift toward clinical applications of aging biology.
