Coya Therapeutics has published preclinical results for COYA 303 in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences.
COYA 303 is a combination of proprietary low-dose interleukin-2 and a glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor agonist that the company says was evaluated in a subacute low-dose lipopolysaccharide mouse model.
The company claims the combination produced complementary immunomodulatory effects versus either agent alone: GLP-1RA attenuated myeloid expansion and inflammatory transcriptional responses while LD-IL2 increased regulatory T cell numbers and transcripts associated with Treg stability and suppressive function.
Peripherally, the company reports reductions in IL-6 and tumor necrosis factor transcripts and increases in arginase-1, and in cortical and hippocampal tissues the combination reduced IL-6 and IL-1b while increasing CD163 and CD206, markers of anti-inflammatory M2 macrophages.
Treatment was initiated 24 hours after inflammatory induction. The study was conducted by researchers at Houston Methodist Neurological Institute and funded by Coya, and the company claims the findings support further evaluation of COYA 303 in Alzheimer’s disease and other neurodegenerative indications.
