Exonate Limited has changed its name to Foventa Therapeutics and shifted its focus to clinical development for non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy.
The new name is inspired by the fovea, and the company describes its motto as Simply Sharper.
According to the company, Foventa is advancing FOV407, a topical retinal-penetrant small molecule SRPK1 inhibitor designed to act on the VEGF pathway; the company selected FOV407 from more than 1,000 designed molecules for its retinal penetration, potency and selectivity.
The company claims earlier Phase Ib/IIa studies showed the molecule suppressed harmful vascular leakage in patients’ eyes.
FOV407 is being developed as a non-invasive eye drop for NPDR, and a Phase IIb study is in preparation with a design validated through a Type C meeting with the US Food and Drug Administration.
