FibroBiologics, a Houston-based clinical-stage biotechnology company, announced that the United States Patent and Trademark Office issued U.S. Patent No. 12,721,866 on 1 September 2026, covering therapeutic use of fibroblasts in wound healing.
The issued claims, the company says, include methods for topically administering compositions comprising 3D spheroid fibroblasts and fibroblast-derived materials such as extracellular vesicles, exosomes, microvesicles, apoptotic bodies or cell fragments to treat and accelerate wound healing.
Indications listed in the patent include diabetic foot ulcers, venous leg ulcers, pressure wounds, burn wounds, cuts and abrasions.
The company claims preclinical studies described in the patent showed wounds treated with fibroblast spheroids and fibroblast-derived materials healed significantly faster than controls in diabetic and non-diabetic models.
According to the company, FibroBiologics holds more than 270 US and internationally issued patents and pending applications and trades on Nasdaq under the ticker FBLG.
