Function Health now lets members feed lab results into ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity, turning AI answers into ones grounded in biology.

Millions of people already type their symptoms into an AI chatbot before they type them into a search bar for a doctor’s office. It’s fast, free and available at 2 a.m. when the worry hits hardest. However, there’s always been a catch: the AI has no idea who you actually are. It’s answering from population averages, not from your bloodwork, your history or the note your doctor left after your last visit.

Function Health thinks it just fixed that, as the Austin-based health membership company has launched what it’s calling a secure health data connector, a tool that lets its members plug their own lab results and clinician-reviewed notes directly into the AI platforms they’re already using, including ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity [1]. In plain terms, the AI that answers your questions can now actually see your numbers.

Consider the moments this is built for. You’ve got a cardiology appointment coming up and a family history of heart attacks. Or a lab result just came back with a flagged marker, and your specialist appointment isn’t for three weeks. Or you’ve been exhausted for months and don’t know why. They’re the kind of thing that keeps people up at night, and up until now, an AI chatbot could only offer you the textbook answer, not your answer.

Function’s own membership data makes the case for why this had to happen. More than 80 percent of its members show at least one biomarker outside the optimal range – things like elevated ApoB, low ferritin or thyroid markers that aren’t quite where they should be. Those are the everyday static of modern bodies, and they raise real questions about what’s driving them and what to do about it. An AI without access to that data was always going to be guessing.

“AI can empower us to understand and take action in so many aspects of our lives. Yet when it comes to health, AI has been missing the context that matters most: our biology,” said Ziad Sultan, Function’s Chief Product and Technology Officer. “Function now lets you safely share your lab results and clinician-reviewed notes with your preferred AI. You can now choose to truly personalize the conversation by grounding it in your own health.”

That word “choose” is doing some quiet work in that quote. Function isn’t locking members into its own AI assistant; it’s letting them bring their data to whichever tool they already trust and already use. Members get access to more than 160 lab results, ongoing health history and clinician notes, feeding into conversations about heart health, hormones, metabolism and energy – the same categories that show up again and again in longevity research as the ones worth watching closely over decades, not just during an annual physical.

The bigger shift this points to

This launch builds on something Function already had running: a Private AI Chat through its Medical Intelligence Lab, which members have been using for the past year to make sense of their own results. The new connector just widens the door, letting that personalization travel into the AI tools people were already reaching for anyway.

The longevity field has spent years chasing a single idea: health decisions should be based on your biology, not someone else’s average. Lab panels, wearables and continuous glucose monitors all exist to answer the same question in different ways – what does this body, specifically, need?

AI chat was the missing piece. It’s where people already go with their health anxieties and 2 a.m. questions, and until now it’s been answering blind. Grounding those conversations in real biomarkers doesn’t just make the answers more accurate. It nudges millions of casual health questions a little closer to being genuinely preventive, one flagged lab value and one clarifying AI conversation at a time.
