Immunis announced it has entered an exclusive licensing agreement with Toray to develop and commercialize a drug candidate for dyskinesia associated with Parkinson’s disease, according to the company. The therapy will be developed under the name IMM02-KORA, or KORA.
Under the agreement, Immunis obtained exclusive rights to develop and commercialize the treatment in the United States, Canada, the European Union and the European Free Trade Association. The company said it has submitted an Investigational New Drug application to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to begin a Phase I clinical trial.
Preclinical data indicate that KORA reduced symptoms of L-DOPA-induced dyskinesia in a rat model of Parkinson’s disease, supporting the company’s plan to advance the therapy into clinical development, the company claims.
Dyskinesia is a common complication of Parkinson’s disease treatment, and the company notes that a large proportion of patients receiving standard therapy eventually develop involuntary movements that can interfere with daily activities such as writing, eating and dressing.
Immunis is a clinical-stage biotechnology company focused on developing treatments for age-related diseases and conditions linked to immune and metabolic dysfunction.
