Heartseed is developing regenerative cell therapies for severe heart failure using high-purity ventricular cardiomyocytes derived from iPS cells organized into cardiomyocyte spheroids to support engraftment while minimizing risks of tumorigenesis and arrhythmia.
The company claims it is advancing two delivery approaches: open-chest surgical transplantation and catheter-based administration.
Heartseed said its one-year clinical trial results for the surgical approach showed promising safety and efficacy outcomes and support plans to apply for approval in Japan within 2026.
Patient enrollment is actively progressing for the catheter-based approach. According to the company, Heartseed has been selected to appear in the Breakthroughs public service announcement series, which the company claims will present its work and broader regenerative cardiology developments to audiences in the United States and internationally.
Heartseed frames its work as part of a broader effort to shift severe heart failure care from management toward restoring damaged heart muscle.
