Kapow! Superpower launches preventative health and longevity platform

High profile angels join VCs in $4m pre-seed backing of digital platform that aims to democratize access to personalized longevity medicine.

The growth in digital longevity medicine continues apace, with the emergence of Superpower, a new healthcare platform designed to provide “personalized, preventative, and longevity-focused medicine.”  The San Francisco-based company announced it has secured $4 million in pre-seed funding to advance its mission to democratize access to preventative healthcare and make high-quality, personalized care accessible to everyone – not just the wealthiest 0.1%.

The funding round was led by Susa Ventures, with contributions from Long Journey Ventures, Family Fund, Atman VC, 24 Carrot VC, Focalpoint Partners and Seaside Ventures. Several notable angel investors also participated, including Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss, Balaji Srinivasan, Scott and Cyan Banister and Evan Charles Moore, Co-Founder of DoorDash.

Founded in early 2023 by serial entrepreneurs Kevin Unkrich, Max Marchione and Jacob Peters, Superpower’s “digital-first” platform is already integrated with “hundreds” of testing and treatment partners across the US and has just rolled out a “beta” membership model.

Preventative medicine ‘just getting started’

Superpower’s manifesto states: “We deliver the most advanced diagnostics and vetted therapeutics to those who seek a longer, healthier and more vital life.” Membership includes annual whole-body testing, which the company says will go far beyond the scope of traditional primary care physicals. Members receive personalized health insights from a team of clinicians, aided by AI, which helps design custom health strategies that evolve over time.

“We’re building the healthcare system we want for ourselves and our loved ones,” said Marchione, Superpower’s COO. “One that is holistic, data-driven, and can support the problems that have classically been neglected by healthcare: nutrition, sleep, inflammation, gut health, hormones, toxins, and longevity, amongst others. Preventative medicine is just getting started.”

The Superpower platform also keeps members informed about the latest scientific research and health trends, continuously evaluating new tests and treatments to predict and prevent disease, address acute health issues holistically and enhance overall performance.

“Our vision is to build the world’s first all-in-one digital clinic to bring preventative and longevity focused healthcare to every human, along with a unique brand proposition paired with a powerhouse Silicon Valley native engineering and design team that this industry has not yet seen,” said Superpower physician Dr Jonathan Richina, formerly of One Medical.

Democratizing a superior model of medicine

Superpower CEO Peters revealed he was motivated to start the company following a personal health crisis that resulted in a lengthy hospital stay and a multi-million-dollar bill, which he believes was preventable.

“After not getting the care I needed, I spent over two years on an extensive healing journey that led me to the frontier of modern medicine, where I worked with a half dozen high end, concierge medicine doctors to fully heal myself,” he said. “The difference between the reactive, one-size-fits-all primary care I had received – versus the integrative, proactive model you can access privately if you have money and are in the know – was staggering.”

“We realized there was an opportunity to build a new type of technology company to democratize this superior model of medicine for everyone, making it easier for us all to feel healthier, live longer and be disease free.”

Superpower has opened a waitlist and says it plans to onboard new members weekly throughout the rest of 2024.
