Lysoway Therapeutics announced that the first participant was dosed on 5 May 2026 in its Phase I clinical trial of LW-1017, a small-molecule TRPML1 agonist being developed for neurodegenerative diseases including Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease.
According to the company, LW-1017 is a potent, selective and highly brain-penetrant therapy designed to restore autophagy–lysosomal function. The Phase I study is being conducted in Melbourne, Australia and is designed to evaluate safety, tolerability and pharmacokinetics in healthy volunteers through single ascending dose and multiple ascending dose cohorts.
LW-1017 was developed using a proprietary structure-guided discovery platform to address historical challenges in achieving brain penetration, oral bioavailability, potency and selectivity for TRPML1 modulators. Lysoway positions LW-1017 as its lead TRPML1 clinical candidate as it advances early-stage development.
