Avaí Bio announced on 7 April 2026 that it and its joint venture partner, Austrianova, will present data from their α-Klotho anti-aging program at the Second Annual Klotho Conference in September. The program, run through the joint venture Klothonova, uses Austrianova’s Cell-in-a-Box encapsulation platform to house genetically modified cells that overexpress α-Klotho.

According to the company, the approach is intended to sustainably restore circulating α-Klotho levels for potential applications in age-related conditions. The company claims that circulating α-Klotho declines with age and has been linked in published research to cardiovascular, kidney, and cognitive function.

The release cites research estimating the global longevity biotech market at $9.86 billion in 2025, with growth toward roughly $29.7 billion by 2034 as cellular therapies and gene approaches advance.

The release also highlights related industry developments: Lineage Cell Therapeutics expanding its AlloSCOPE platform into islet therapy, Ocugen reporting a 46 percent reduction in macular lesion growth in a Phase 2 trial, Vertex advancing a stem-cell-derived islet therapy toward regulatory filings in 2026, and Longeveron publishing positive Phase 2b frailty results in February.
