New proprietary peptide product is easy on the eye

OneSkin launches OS-01 EYE, a topical supplement that targets skin aging in delicate eye area.

Skincare is big business, and a particular area of focus has been skin around the eyes, with various products promising to diminish wrinkles, reduce puffiness and tackle bags under the eyes. Now a new product from OneSkin aims to target aging in skin around the eyes at the molecular level.

Longevity.Technology: The skin around the eyes is thinner and more delicate compared with other areas of the face. This is partly due to an absence of subcutaneous fat and fewer oil glands in this region, which makes this delicate skin more susceptible to damage and aging. The skin around the eyes is more exposed to environmental factors such as sunlight, pollution and stress, all of which can catalyse premature aging, and if the outside doesn’t get you, your own face will – the skin around the eyes is constantly in motion due to blinking, squinting and facial expressions, and this leads to the formation of wrinkles and fine lines over time.

Moreover, senescence and inflammation contribute to skin aging by promoting the production of damaging free radicals, which cause oxidative stress and damage to skin cells. This damage leads to a decline in the production of hyaluronic acid, a key molecule that helps maintain the skin’s moisture and elasticity. Additionally, senescence and inflammation promote the breakdown of collagen, a protein that provides structure and support to the skin, leading to wrinkles and sagging.

While products packed with hyaluronic acid and retinol are readily available, these ameliorate the signs of aging, rather than tackling it at the root cause.

When OneSkin launched its topical senotherapeutic skin treatment back in 2020, it proved so popular it sold out for a few months. Now the company is launching OS-01 EYE, a new topical product formulated specifically for the eye area. The new supplement contains the highest concentration of OneSkin’s proprietary peptide, OS-01.

OS-01 has been shown to reverse skin’s biological age at the molecular level, and it works by reducing the accumulation of senescent cells and strengthening the skin barrier function, targeting aging at the molecular level by supporting skin’s firmness by promoting collagen biosynthesis at the molecular level. OS-01 aims to change the way the skin ages, improving its longevity for long-term, visible results and promoting eye area skin that is stronger, firmer and more resistant to signs of aging.

OneSkin operates end-to-end R&D, testing both product and ingredient efficacy on lab-grown human skin; the company also uses MolClock, the first skin-specific molecular clock that measures skin’s biological age, and these were both put to use in the creation of OS-01 EYE.

OS-01 EYE has been formulated to reduce cellular senescence and inflammation markers. The company has shown this by exposing ex vivo eyelid skin to the formula and evaluating the effect on key cellular senescence and inflammation markers. (A control of no exposure was included in the experiment.)

OneSkin scientists found that topical application of OS-01 EYE decreased the activity of a key senescence marker (P16) and a key inflammation marker (IL-8) in the lab-grown ex vivo human skin models.

With a higher concentration of the OS-01 peptide, OS-01 EYE is designed to decrease the effects of senescent burden and inflammation around the eyes at the molecular level – thereby reducing visible signs of aging and soothing periocular skin.

In addition, ex vivo eyelid skin exposed to OS-01 EYE was analyzed to determine the effect on key markers associated with collagen production and degradation. The science team found that topical application of OS-01 EYE increased the expression of key collagen production marker COL1A1 and decreased the expression of key collagen degradation marker MMP1.
