SynuSight Biotech announced a collaborative study with Shanghai Jiao Tong University and other academic partners published in Cell on 27 May 2026.

The paper, titled “TPPP/p25 amyloid seeding activity as a specific biomarker for multiple system atrophy”, was led by Professor Dan Li’s team at the Bio-X Institute of Shanghai Jiao Tong University with collaborators from the Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry and Huashan Hospital, Fudan University.

The research identified a CORE domain in TPPP/p25 that drives pathological aggregation and used that insight to design a miniCORE substrate and a TPPP/p25 seed amplification assay (TPPP/p25-SAA).

Clinical sample validation, the company claims, showed the assay specifically detected pathological TPPP/p25 seeds in cerebrospinal fluid from patients with multiple system atrophy and exhibited no detectable cross-reactivity with amyloid seeds associated with Aβ, tau, or α-synuclein, allowing distinction of MSA from Parkinson’s disease, dementia with Lewy bodies, and healthy controls.

According to the company, SynuSight will apply its expertise in α-synuclein PET tracer development and translational research to advance these findings toward diagnostic product development and clinical application.
