Oligomerix has appointed Dr. Cara Cassino as interim president and chief executive officer as the privately held biotech moves from discovery toward clinical development of its lead Alzheimer’s candidate.

Cassino has served on the Oligomerix board since July 2025 and brings about 25 years of clinical drug development and commercialization experience that includes senior roles at Boehringer Ingelheim, Pfizer and Forest Laboratories, and later leadership positions at ContraFect.

Her industry experience includes securing an $86 million BARDA grant at ContraFect, participation in development programs that led to more than 25 FDA and European Medicines Agency approvals, and involvement in strategic partnerships, M&A and equity financings totaling more than $190 million.

OLX-07010 is an oral, once-daily small-molecule therapy designed to prevent tau protein accumulation; the company claims it has shown activity in multiple animal models.

The candidate completed a Phase 1a study in healthy volunteers and demonstrated a favorable safety profile, according to the company, and Oligomerix is preparing to advance the program into further clinical testing while exploring applications in progressive supranuclear palsy and frontotemporal dementia.

The company is headquartered at the Ullmann Research Center for Health Sciences within the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
