Rafael Holdings, Inc. announced that its subsidiary, Cyclo Therapeutics, has entered an exclusive licensing agreement with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology covering U.S. Patent No. 12285440.
The license covers the use of cyclodextrins in patients with Alzheimer’s disease who carry the ApoE4 genetic variant and is intended to strengthen Rafael Holdings’ intellectual property around Trappsol Cyclo in that patient population.
According to the company, the ApoE4 variant is estimated to be present in 50 to 70 percent of patients with Alzheimer’s disease and is a significant risk factor for earlier onset sporadic cases.
Trappsol Cyclo’s established mechanism of action could improve cholesterol transport between central nervous system cells, a pathway the company links to amyloid and tau pathology in ApoE4-positive patients.
The company also cites preclinical data suggesting improved cholesterol delivery between CNS cells, reduced tau pathology and better learning and memory in mice.
Rafael Holdings noted that Phase 3 results from its Transport NPC study are due in the calendar third quarter of 2026 and described its NPC1 Phase 3 trial as the largest conducted in that patient group. The press release included customary forward-looking statements and risk disclosures.
