Rani Therapeutics has entered a research and development collaboration with PegBio to evaluate oral delivery of multiple obesity and metabolic disease molecules from PegBio’s portfolio using Rani’s RaniPill platform.
Under the agreement, the firms will work on preclinical development of RaniPill formulations for selected PegBio molecules, to advance the most promising candidates into clinical development.
The collaboration expands Rani Therapeutics’ obesity franchise beyond existing programs, including RT-114, a GLP-1/GLP-2 dual agonist now in a Phase 1 trial developed with ProGen.
Rani Therapeutics has also completed preclinical studies of other obesity candidates such as semaglutide. According to the company, those preclinical studies demonstrated pharmacokinetics, bioavailability, pharmacodynamics and weight loss comparable to subcutaneous injections.
The partnership is intended to broaden oral therapeutic options for obesity and metabolic disease.
