Rapamycin Holdings has rebranded as Emtora Biosciences and named Dr. Carole Spangler Vaughn as its new Chief Executive Officer, according to the company. Based in San Antonio, Emtora Biosciences is developing eRapa, an oral formulation of rapamycin targeting cancer and other diseases of aging.
The company said that the rebranding reflects its expanded focus on advancing rapamycin-based therapies beyond the initial clinical target of familial adenomatous polyposis. The company claims eRapa could help reduce polyp burden and delay disease progression in patients at high risk of colorectal cancer.
According to the company, Dr. Carole Spangler Vaughn brings experience as a surgical oncologist and biotech executive, which will support ongoing clinical and regulatory efforts. The company added that it will continue its work in partnership with the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas.
Emtora Biosciences plans to advance eRapa through clinical trials and regulatory milestones over the next year. The company said its broader goal is to address age-related diseases by targeting the mTOR pathway, aiming to deliver disease-modifying therapies to patients with significant unmet medical needs.
