Rejuvenate Bio has announced a partnership with an undisclosed leading animal health company to advance the development of RJB-042, a gene therapy candidate for treating canine osteoarthritis. The collaboration includes joint development and commercialisation efforts specifically targeting this widespread and painful condition in dogs.
According to the company, RJB-042 is designed to reduce inflammation and protect cartilage, with the goal of improving mobility and quality of life for affected dogs. Rejuvenate Bio claims that canine osteoarthritis impacts millions of dogs globally, often resulting in chronic pain and decreased activity.
The company said that its proprietary gene therapy platform uses adeno-associated virus (AAV) vectors to deliver therapeutic genes directly to target tissues. This platform is also being investigated for other indications in both veterinary and human health.
The partnership includes an upfront payment to Rejuvenate Bio, alongside additional development and commercial milestone payments, as well as royalties on future product sales if successfully approved. Financial details and the identity of the partner have not been disclosed.
Rejuvenate Bio claims this agreement builds on its mission to use gene therapy to address age-related and chronic diseases in animals, with the potential to expand into additional therapeutic areas over time. The company is also continuing to explore new applications of its technology platform beyond osteoarthritis, targeting other common conditions affecting pets.
