Rokit Healthcare is accelerating the commercialization of an AI-based cartilage regeneration platform through a large-scale, multi-center clinical trial that involves 13 medical institutions and more than 100 patients.

The trial, TCW (Timeless Cartilage, Comfortable Work), is overseen by clinical investigator Jang Jong-beom, professor of orthopedic surgery at Seoul National University Bundang Hospital. The platform uses the patient’s infrapatellar fat pad, an autologous adipose tissue, which is micronized into a bio-ink and printed in real time with a 3D bioprinter to produce a customized cartilage patch in the operating room.

The approach is presented as a one-stop treatment that avoids lengthy external cell culture and multiple surgeries. Rokit Healthcare claims the technology aims to regenerate hyaline cartilage rather than fibrocartilage, potentially improving durability and reducing the risk of re-damage compared with standard microfracture procedures, and that using autologous tissue minimizes immune rejection.

The company also positions the platform as scalable, with future iterations intended to incorporate stem cells and growth factors for enhanced cartilage regeneration.
