Rznomics announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has granted Regenerative Medicine Advanced Therapy designation to RZ-001, the company’s lead investigational candidate for hepatocellular carcinoma.
The designation was awarded based on interim Phase 1b/2a clinical data, including safety results and preliminary response rates, presented at the American Association for Cancer Research annual meeting in April 2026, according to the company. RZ-001 is built on Rznomics’ trans-splicing ribozyme RNA editing platform, which replaces cancer-specific RNA with therapeutic RNA; the company claims this approach enhances tumor selectivity and safety.
RZ-001 previously received orphan drug designation in 2024 and fast-track designation in 2025.
The RMAT status makes the program eligible for increased FDA guidance and potential priority and rolling review pathways that can accelerate development and review.
The announcement also notes Rznomics’ May 2025 research-and-license collaboration with Eli Lilly and its December 2025 KOSDAQ listing. The company frames the RMAT decision as validation of RZ-001’s clinical potential, according to the company.
