Sana Biotechnology has appointed Brian Piper as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, strengthening its financial leadership as the company advances its cell and gene therapy portfolio, according to the company.
Piper joins Sana from Ironwood Pharmaceuticals, where he most recently served as Chief Financial Officer and played a central role in financing strategy, investor engagement, and commercial planning for late‑stage assets, the company said. Sana claims his experience in strategic financial planning and public markets will support its efforts to progress multiple clinical‑stage programs.
In his role at Sana, Piper will oversee financial operations, reporting, budgeting, and investor relations while working closely with senior leadership to align resources with the company’s clinical development objectives. The company said his appointment follows a search aimed at identifying an executive with public company experience and deep biopharmaceutical sector knowledge.
According to Sana, Piper’s background includes experience managing financial functions during periods of operational growth and pipeline advancement, which the company said positions him to contribute to execution of long‑term strategic goals. His hire is expected to support continued investment in Sana’s engineered cell and gene therapies targeting cancer, neurological disorders, and other serious diseases.
The company added that Piper’s leadership will be instrumental in navigating financial challenges and supporting planned clinical milestones as its programs progress toward regulatory and commercial inflection points. Sana is headquartered in Seattle and remains focused on developing therapeutic platforms designed to edit, replace, and regulate genes and cells for durable treatment effects.
