United Therapeutics has acquired Thymmune Therapeutics, a privately held preclinical biotechnology company developing regenerative thymic cell therapies, in a transaction announced on 2 July 2026.
The agreement provides $140 million in cash, subject to post-closing adjustments, plus potential earn-out payments of up to $160 million tied to clinical and regulatory milestones through 2031.
Thymmune’s platform converts human-induced pluripotent stem cells into thymic cells that, once administered, mature into cell types intended to restore T-cell function. Its lead program, THY-100, is in preclinical development for congenital athymia; animal studies reportedly demonstrate formation of a neo-thymus capable of facilitating T-cell development.
United Therapeutics described the acquisition as complementary to its organ alternatives and immunomodulatory efforts, including its UThymoKidney clinical development program, and said the technology could broaden thymic regenerative approaches for transplant tolerance, immune deficiencies, and autoimmune diseases.
