Variant Bio has expanded its multi-year research collaboration and license agreement with Boehringer Ingelheim to include cardiovascular disease, building on prior work in kidney disease.
The expanded collaboration will apply Variant Bio’s Inference platform to discover and validate novel cardiovascular targets.
According to the company, the AI-powered Inference platform conducts end-to-end genomic analysis using proprietary genomic, deep-phenotyping and multi-omic data from studies involving diverse populations worldwide.
The company claims the platform combines large language models, machine learning and statistical genetics to interrogate hundreds of billions of data points and compress the path from genetic association to validated therapeutic hypotheses.
Under the expanded terms, Variant Bio will receive an additional upfront payment and is eligible for license and milestone payments potentially exceeding $250 million.
The collaboration pairs Variant Bio’s data-driven discovery capabilities with Boehringer Ingelheim’s disease expertise aimed at identifying genetically supported targets for new treatments.
