Seattle-based biotech Youthbio Therapeutics has emerged from stealth mode, launching efforts to develop gene therapies for epigenetic rejuvenation, according to the company. The startup was founded in early 2021 by Yuri Deigin (CEO) and Viet Ly (CFO), with Dr. João Pedro de Magalhães serving as chief scientific officer and Dr. Alejandro Ocampo as lead research collaborator.
Youthbio focuses on partial cellular reprogramming using Yamanaka factors to restore youthful epigenetic profiles, the company said. Its research spans in vitro and in vivo studies across multiple therapeutic areas, aiming to discover improved reprogramming factors and validate their effects in animal models.
The startup is currently conducting animal studies and foundational discovery research, the company claims. It aims to develop tissue-specific gene therapies that rejuvenate organ function and combat aging-related diseases, paving the way for potential human therapies.
By advancing partial reprogramming techniques, Youthbio seeks to tackle safety and efficacy limitations of traditional approaches and drive a shift towards controlled, targeted rejuvenation interventions, according to the company.
